Professor Joanne Kemp is a Specialist Sports Physiotherapist in Ballarat with internationally recognised expertise in the assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of hip pain, hip injuries, and hip osteoarthritis. She works with athletes, active adults, and everyday patients to reduce pain, improve movement, and help people return confidently to sport, work, and an active lifestyle through evidence-based physiotherapy.

Jo holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Physiotherapy), a Master of Sports Physiotherapy, and a PhD. She is recognised as a Specialist Sports Physiotherapist and has more than 30 years of clinical experience managing complex hip and pelvic conditions. She combines extensive clinical expertise with world-leading research to provide patients with the latest evidence-based assessment and rehabilitation strategies.

Professor Kemp is an NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellow at the La Trobe Sport and Exercise Medicine Research Centre and Academic Director of the La Trobe University Clinical Trials Platform. She is also an Editor for the British Journal of Sports Medicine and has published more than 200 peer-reviewed research papers while securing over $16 million in competitive research funding. Her research focuses on improving outcomes for people with hip pain, femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) syndrome, hip dysplasia and hip osteoarthritis through innovative non-surgical and rehabilitation interventions.

Throughout her career, Jo has consulted to numerous national sporting organisations and elite athletes experiencing hip and groin pain. She is widely recognised as one of Australia’s leading experts in hip rehabilitation and regularly presents at state, national, and international conferences on hip pain, hip preservation, and sports physiotherapy.

Her treatment approach combines expert clinical assessment, evidence-based physiotherapy, exercise rehabilitation, strength and conditioning principles, and individualised management plans to help patients reduce pain, improve function, and maintain long-term joint health.
