GLA:D Program

Allied Health Care for the Ballarat Region

GLA:D® is a program developed by researchers in Denmark for people with hip or knee osteoarthritis. It incorporates both education and exercise to manage pain and symptoms. This evidenced based program has been shown to be the best way to manage osteoarthritis.

Treatment for knee and hip arthritis

Physiotherapists Lachlan Ramsay and Jasper Walker-Corbet at Lake Health Group are trained in the GLA:D® program and can provide you with the tools you need to better manage your osteoarthritis symptoms. They regularly undertake assessments and GLA:D® groups to cater for the local demand ensuring long waits to join the program are avoided.

Research from the program in Denmark has shown a symptom progression reduction of 32%.

This program provides a unique combination of education and exercise which participants can apply to everyday activities. By strengthening and correcting daily movement patterns, participants will be able to train their bodies to move properly and thus prevent symptom progression and reduce pain.

The GLA:D Program can help to:
  • Reduce pain levels
  • Diminish the reliance on joint related pain killers
  • Increase participant’s activity levels.
  • Reduce the need for arthroscopic knee and hip surgery
  • May prolong the need for hip and knee joint replacement.

Private Health Insurance will cover a percentage of appointments, depending on an individuals level of health cover.

Enhanced Primary Care Plan (EPC). The EPC is a government initiative that allows people with chronic injuries or ailments to access health professional services to assist with the management of their condition with the benefits of a Medicare Rebate.

The EPC Plan cannot be used for exercise sessions.

As per our most recent lockdowns, allied health services (Physiotherapy and Podiatry) are deemed essential and as such the clinic will be open for essential clinical care.

There will be no clinical pilates, GLAD, exercise therapy, myotherapy or massage during this lockdown. We will seek to re-schedule any existing appointments.

What does this mean for you?
- If you have a Physio or Podiatry appointment during the lockdown period, your therapist will work with you to determine if the appointment would fall into the defined essential category.
- You ARE ALLOWED to travel more than 5km for medical appointments, please use your text message reminder as proof if required.

We welcome all clients except those who have visited the listed COVID exposure sites as per the current government legislation and COVID safe requirements.

If you have any queries or concerns please contact our friendly administration team on 5335 3200.
