Real Time Ultrasound
Real time ultrasound (RTUS) provides us with the unique ability to see the deep abdominal, pelvic floor and deep lumbar muscles known as the core stabilising muscles that contribute to low back pain and are often difficult to feel. These muscles are important in providing support to the spine. Back pain, poor posture, surgery or pregnancy can result in the loss of adequate control in these muscles. The use of RTUS has been shown to help reduce the recurrence of low back pain from 80% to 30%, by assisting in teaching the correct method of core muscle activation.
Consultations using RTUS allows your physiotherapist to evaluate your abdominal muscle function to ensure your continued improvement.
